The Proposal

Kevin and I had long discussed the possibility of becoming engaged. During our "dating" time together, we'd often talk about what it would be like to be married, as most couples in love do. He had always wanted me to move in with him but I hesitated, fear holding me back. It was hard for us, especially with a long distance relationship and the desire to be with each other was strong, and growing stronger by the day. It was after a visit with him in Illinois that I came home and decided that I was ready to do a "trial" living situation with him. I moved in with him in his apartment in Aurora in April of 1997 and stayed with him for four months.

Needless to say, we were engaged September 26th, 1997.

He arrived on a Friday and we packed a lunch and headed to Sands Point Preserve, a beautiful wildlife refuge off the coast of the Long Island Sound. I remember it was very windy that day and our food, hair and clothes were blowing around crazily from where we sat on the breaker wall right off the beach. After we managed to eat our lunch, we decided to take a hike around some ruins of an old house. It was there that he proposed to me. The memory of his proposal is frozen in my mind, a priceless image that I will always have with me. I cried (like a wuss) and stuck out my hand...and finally managed to say "yes".

Celtic Triskele RingThe ring he chose for me is absolutely beautiful. I'm not one for a gaudy gold ring with a huge diamond, (I couldn't deal with it constantly getting caught in my hair), and the ring he chose was perfect. A white gold celtic triskele ring with a gorgeous circular diamond in the center created by David Morgan. He had ordered it online and was very happy with his decision, as was I of course! He chose the triskele ring to represent our everlasting love and commitment, as depicted in the triangular shaped endless knot that the Celts cherished.

We came home and told my parents immediately, (though they already knew, as he had asked my father's permission first), and celebrated later that week with my friends and family. We celebrated again when we were both in Aurora with his family as well.

The day he proposed was the happiest day of my life, and I will remember it always.
